Private loan programs, as opposed to Title IV programs, can help bridge your student's financing gap for school expenses, generally at much lower rates than credit cards. And, as with any education loan, it's in your student's interest to be conservative and only borrow what the student absolutely needs.
Qualifying for private loans is based on credit criteria established by each lender. Credit qualification criteria can vary by the type of loan, by whether the borrower is a student or parent, or by whether the loan is backed by a cosigner.
Pre-approval eliminates uncertainty up front, before your student goes through the loan application process. You'll know that the student qualifies and the amount the student can expect to obtain. This can save a lot of time, and frees you to look for alternative funding if you learn that you student does not qualify or if the amount doesn't quite cover their expenses.
Approvals and Accreditation will assist you in searching for loan sources. For information concerning Title IV Federal Financial Aid, go to the Title IV page on this web site.
