STATE LICENSURE AND APPROVALS.

Most states require that a proprietary school be licensed, approved or registered. Before you can start a new school or continue to operate an existing school you must have your state's permission to do so.

Both accreditation and State licensure/approval address the issue of quality in the educational offerings of private postsecondary institutions, but are totally independent of each other. State licensure/approval provides a mechanism by which institutions that fail to comply with quality standards established by the state can be denied permission to operate in their state. Accreditation provides a mechanism for accrediting commissions created and funded by institutions to adopt standards and practices by which the institutions essentially “police” themselves. State standards provide different protections for students and accreditation should not be viewed as an alternative or substitute for the adoption and enforcement of state standards. Accreditation requires that the school be legally able to operate in the state in which they are located.

Each state has their own laws and regulations that oversee Private Postsecondary Proprietary Schools. Approvals and Accreditation will help you to prepare your state application, review and edit your catalog, review and edit your enrollment agreement or contract, and other tasks necessary to become licensed or approved.

When your school needs to renew its license or approval, Approvals and Accreditation can assist you with the renewal process.
